Imaginary Friend

Did you have an imaginary friend as a kid? I don’t ever recall having one, but my eldest child did. She had a couple, actually, but they were based on real people she knew in her own circle of friends. She simply imagined they were there playing with her even if they were in fact elsewhere. I never saw any harm in it, and still don’t. Her life is now filled with loads of real friends and she is too exhausted for having imaginary ones on top of all that.

Did you or your children have imaginary friends? Do you still have imaginary friends? Write about these friends. What role did they play in your life, or the lives of your children? How invasive were these imaginary people? Would you consider keeping a journal is anything like having an imaginary friend?

Please share any thoughts you have on this topic in the comments section below, but also spend some time working on this in your journal.

Never had an imaginary friend, but I did love writing about things in my journal as a kid. So many journals can be like imaginary friends in that you want to tell them everything.

  2. Hi Cherie,
Thanks so much for your comment. Yes, I think keeping a journal may be like having an imaginary friend. A lot of people even name their journals. ;-)
