In Honor of Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day always reminds me of previous generations of women who have gone before me.

I love looking through my vintage lace, embroidery and textiles and imagining generations of hands creating lovely work for themselves and for their families.  Little girls learned how to sew, embroidery, crochet, knit, weave and more from their mother’s, aunts, grandmothers and family friends.

I can’t think of a better way to acknowledge the women of previous generations, than to teach the next generation of kids how to create!

I used to teach kids sewing lessons, and over and over again I heard from the moms  “boy, I wish my mom had taught me how to sew”.  So let’s make sure the next generation can do all the things we love to do.

Don’t have children of your own?  Volunteer or find some other way to bring your skills to the community.  Let’s make sure we don’t have another generation that wishes that they could create with their hands!
