In memoriam Jabriel Eason

Another autistic child has drowned in a swimming pool.

This past weekend, 6-year-old Jabriel Eason, who is autistic and who lived in Macon, Georgia, drowned in a swimming pool lake behind the apartment complex where his family lives, as reported in today’s 13WMAZ.com news. Jabriel was reported missing on Sunday after 2pm by his mother, Olympia Octavia Ammons; he was already dead when searchers found him 20 hours later (see the August 15th Macon Telegraph).

Two other autistic children, 7-year-old Tyji Chester and 3-year-old Jaden Fournier also drowned in swimming pools earlier this summer.

Why has another autistic child again died in a pool by drowning?

We’ve thought many times about the idea of renting a villa for a holiday, but the idea of Serge spending any time at all within even a mile of an open-air pool fills us with dread.

I guess it’s easier for us — pools are very rare in the UK.

  2. My own son can swim very well—we are at the ocean—–we’re on watch more than 24/7 always.

Every time ANY child dies in the Phoenix, AZ area, it’s in the news, sometimes leading the evening news on TV. As a result of all the reporting, and advice on how to child-proof your pool, there aren’t all that many deaths, considering how many pools tere are. Every time a child drowns in a pool, the public is educated on pool safety.

(Or so my mother-in-law informed me when we all visited there last year and there was a big to-do in the media about a child drowning in a pool.)

We get the same sort of media education blitz whenever someone drives a vehicle into floodwaters and there’s a death or a lifesaving rescue (or both). “Turn around, don’t drown” is the slogan they’re trying to drill into us in this part of Texas.

Jabriel didn’t drowned in a pool , he drowned in
a lake that was on the property of his apartment complex .

  5. Sunny says:

And his mother’s name is Octavia Ammons. You should really do your research before posting something a website.

  6. Thanks for the corrections, and I apologize for the errors. Sunny, are you acquainted with any of the family members?

  7. Sunny says:

Yes I was Jabriel’s Parapro last year . He was great little boy , full of joy. He will be missed and loved always. Thanks for the corretions.

  8. Thanks so much, Sunny, for writing about Jabriel. He is and will be definitely missed and loved.
