In My Humble Opinion
O those days of old when you could use your cane for Style and Grace. Do you remember when your dad went on a walk with you and he had his walking stick with him? This stick was used for many things: it would tell people who you were, it would keep the path way clean by using it to push things to the side, it was used to keep the dogs at bay. It could even be used as a deterrent for those who wanted to do us harm.
Now, it’s a sign of weakness. BA HUMBUG… this weakness thing has to go!
In my humble opinion, the medical minds have taken the Stylish Cane and have reduced it down to a Medical Ugly walking aid that makes one feel weak and useless. People now are proud and I mean PROUD that they’re 78 years old and do not need a cane. ![]()
There are others with chronic pain, RSD, MS, fibromyalgia, nerve damage – and list goes on – of people who refuse to use a cane. You do not have to be a martyr. Now what is the saying? Pride becomes before a fall?
And it does, literally. Thousands of elderly and people with pain, no matter the age, take a spill. When we do take a fall, we break a hip, a leg, or a wrist… and the list goes on. When you’re in this category, the possibilities are endless that can put you in a wheel chair for the rest of your life.
So, forget about your pride and Walk with Style®. Forget about those ugly looking canes and find something that shows your personality! Walking is one of the best ways to exercise, so let’s get out there and Walk in Safety and walk with a cane or walking stick with Style.
To give you an idea of what is available, here are some types of canes one can choose from for weight bearing:
For those of us who need lots of support. Designed for left and right hands. Very comfortable and distributes your weight throughout your palm and not in one spot. Up to 250 pounds
Great for comfort, has just a bit of a lip so people can hang it off of their arm if need be. Up to 250 pounds
For those who have arthritis and need a handle that is more straight and thus a bit easer to hang onto. Up to 250 pounds
These beautifully crafted walking sticks are designed to fit like a fine glove, offering the ultimate in comfort, stability and style. Up to 250 pounds
This cane is one of the oldest out on the market. Not my taste because it is not very comfortable on your hand. However, it does hook onto your arm or door handle when you must store it. The other types of canes can have wrist straps put on them for the same effect. Up to 250 pounds
- T-Handle Canes, Shovel-Handle Canes, and Ball Canes:
Sometimes individuals are more comfortable with these handles; it is not the most popular, so you must call me for a picture.
What to look for:
You must always ask if the cane can take your whole weight or just part of your weight. If it looks flimsy, do not buy it no matter how great it looks. Always ask if the cane has been tested for different weights. Also, it is smart to get a few canes with different handles, thus helping your hand not to get over used in one area of the palm. It is also extremely important not to get a cane that will force you into a fall, NO matter how great looking it is!
Many of you might ask me about the real fancy canes: pure silver, gold, bronze and others that use metal in the handle of the cane. I do carry them, but they are only for going out for a few hours. Any and all metals are great for conducting heat and cold. In Canada, we have such a difference in weather it is amazing. There are no medical facts that support me on this, however, I believe using a cane that has any type of metal can put one at risk for arthritics or for that matter just making flair ups of arthritis.
So. please be careful when choosing a Stylish Cane that suits you, You are individual, and you deserve to treat yourself to a stylish cane. So get out there, and “Walk with a Smile and Walk with Style with Canes Canada®” If you do have any questions, please drop “The Cane Man®” a note at info@canescanada.com or you can call him toll free at 1 866 217 8091.
Keep safe, and keep on walking. It is important to your health.
