Installing Your Doorbell or Door Chimes

A simple explanation of what is happening when you install your door bell:

  1. Transformer – the electrical line in the house runs on 120 volts, the door bell only requires between 6 to 30 volts, the transformer only draws the required voltage. Transformers can be affected by high temperatures so attics are not a recommended location.
  2. The line runs from the door bell at the front door to the transformer, then from the transformer to the bell itself and back to the door bell at the front door.
  3. This completes the circuit, when you press the button at the front door (the bell rings).

This is a very simple explanation of what is involved; below there will be connections to video and a more detail explanation on how to install your door bell or chimes.
