Interiors by My Father

May 31, 2007 by Elizabeth

My dad called me at work twice today to let me know that he’d been shopping, and, had found several framed prints for his house.

It’s been very odd to hear him talk about what “looks right” where, and, how something already on the wall is the “wrong proportion”.

Honestly, before my mother died, I would have put money on the fact that he didn’t even know there were any pictures at all on the walls in their house.

I love reading your Dad stories – they sound so much like things my Dad would do.

An aside, a couple of months ago you posted a link to a book that, I thought I had bookmarked but apparently did not, pertained to end of life issues and maybe hospice – do you by chance remember that post? If so, would you mind sedning me the name again?

  2. I don’t know what explains your Dad’s interest in interior decorating, but I know what would explain my own in similar circumstances.

The fact is I have a pretty good eye for design. My wife does, too, and she cares passionately about how our home is decorated. Much, much more so than I.

I have some decorating ideas, too, but I would much rather see my wife happy than sit in a room decorated exactly to my taste.
