Interview with Darren Rowse about being a SAHD

Blogger extraordinaire Darren Rowse, above and beyond his web achievements, is a father. A stay at home father at that.

In a recent interview Darren says that “work life balances” are one of the toughest things he’s faced as a stay at home dad. He makes an interesting point that a tendency to overwork is just a tempting as not to work at all in a work-at-home setting.

I’m tucking his suggestion away in the back of my mind about getting into a routine during the early days with a newborn.

  1. Kate says:

    Bill,

Remember, newborns are demanding creatures with an idea of routine that might be different from your own.

I think the other thing to watch out for is bad habits and they are related to Darren’s description of the temptation to overwork.

Habits might look like routines, but they don’t necessarily support your goals.

I would like to break the habit of going online again after dinner to spend more time with my family, but it is so ingrained and my work is so demanding…

  2. Bill says:

    VERY good point Kate,

I’ve got to break the habit of going on line as well. I often do so in the name of work and productivity, but isn’t always the end result
