Slowly, but steadily, more and more governments are realising the threat of diabetes and taking steps to manage the fast deteriorating situation. Recently New York city started monitoring diabetes and now a similar proposal has been put forward to the Irish government. This yet to be published government report suggests

  • Diet consultation for diabetes patients
  • Maintaining a register of all diabetes patients
  • Educating diabetics about the disease as well as their condition
  • Yearly reviews of diabetics including their eye and foot conditions

and much more. As in most parts of the world, diabetes is increasing in Ireland. The report suggests the action items presented be prioritized at national level. It also calls for taking steps to control obesity, as per the recommendations of the National taskforce on obesity.
