Is scheduling emergencies asking too much?
I’ve had a few parents making fun of me lately because I have a rule around my house that the kids can’t do anything dangerous or take risks unless it’s between the hours of 10 AM and 3 PM. My reason is, if you’ve got to go to the Emergency Room, that’s the time to do it.
I don’t know about you all, but our local ER is nothing like what you see on TV. Perhaps if the doctors were a little more on the hot side, I might not mind so much, but going to the ER outside the timeframe I specify just results in my getting tired, hungry and cranky.
So tell me, is it asking too much for my kids to climb trees, jump out of trees and onto the trampoline, go cowboy surfing (pulling behind a mower around the yard – without the blade – I did make them take it off) and the likes during the 5 hour window daily?

Amen, amen, amen!! I sat in the ER with a finger that was gushing blood, after being sliced open, for six hours. The majority of other patients waiting to be seen were there for routine visits, shots etc… Coincidentally, none of them had insurance. Basically, we were paying for their visit with our tax money and I was made to wait while the doc checked their runny noses. Ugh!!! I was fuming and in a lot of pain. They had to end up giving me a shot of something to calm me down and get the blood to stop gushing. Little did they know that my heart was pumping so fast from being so angry at the other patients!!
I Agree my famous statement is be careful, today is not a good day to go to the hospital! Dillon always asks when is a good day and my response of course is NEVER!
I love it!
We do most of our own ER stuff here. Broken limbs, exposed organs, and torn arteries aside…
Most of the time butterflies, ice, and activated charcoal handle our stuff. But we rarely have big things..I think God just feels sorry for me for the amount of time I sit at the VA with Marc…so everyone else is protected.
I would complain, except that the last person to need an ER visit was me, and the time before that it was my husband, so we can’t really blame the kids on this one…
Marye: I hear you about the VA. Been there, done that MANY times. Soon those days will be over and we’ll have insurance again.
Gayla: I don’t blame you at all. I tell my kid that it’s too late in the evening and I don’t want to go to the ER at night. That usually distracts them until the next time. Mine are younger though. I guess a time frame for older kids is good.
I love this idea, lol. I have always told my kids that if I have to take them to the ER because of *them* being crazy (tree climbing, trampoline, etc…), they have to pay the co-pay. If I see them being stupid, I ask if they have the co-pay in their piggy banks to cover it, and most of the time it causes them to change activities, LOL.
Can this apply to husbands as well? Mine seems to get sick (enough to get put IN the hospital) only on the weekends!!
I’ve been waiting for George Clooney forever…nope, he’s not shown up ONCE!!!
