Is your child overscheduled?

Summer is the perfect time for children to catch up on sports, lessons and other extra-curricular activities they may not have done during the school year. Now is also the right time to re-evaluate how busy your child was last school year with his after-school activities.
Here is a checklist to find out if your child is/was overscheduled. Is he tired, anxious or depressed?
- Is he easily irritated?
- Does he complain of headaches or stomachaches?
- Have his eating habits changed?
- Does he have a hard time falling asleep?
- Is he having trouble finishing schoolwork because of other commitments?
- Is his schedule draining on her or the family?
If you answer yes to any of the following, you may have to re-evaluate how crowded your child’s activities are (which translate to how crowded your own schedule is too). Then give your family much-needed downtime.
Take note also that the above questions may be clues to something other than over-commitment, and instead an emotional or mental health concern. The important thing is to ask yourself, and talk to your child to find out what is going on.
