Is Your Expensive Eye Cream Worth It?

Some claims on eye cream boxes are laughable. Maybe some of them work, but they can’t all be as wonderful as they say.

Personally, I haven’t had patience for them. I can’t even bring myself to use any samples that come my way more than maybe once. Perhaps the wrinkle fears haven’t hit me yet. I’m 35. Yet, I did recently find myself buying Avalon Organics Vitamin C Sun-Aging Defense Facial Cream. It’s olay-total-effectsnot just for the eye area. I like it other than its extra-orange scent.

But I’m not writing a facial cream review today. Instead, I’m reporting on what the experts at Consumer Reports found recently when they tested several top brands of eye cream. Their findings were published in the October Consumer Reports magazine.

Of the 16 eye creams tested, CR found that four of them smoothed wrinkles a little better than the rest. The most cost-effective of those four creams is Olay Total Effects Eye Transforming Cream.

Are you surprised? At just $20, Olay smooths eye wrinkles better than more expensive brands like Clarins Advanced Extra-Firming Eye Contour Cream, Clinique Repairware Intensive and Lancome High Resolution Eye Collaser-5x Intense Collagen.

The most expensive brand tested was Perricone MD Advanced Eye Area Therapy, and its performance was rated average. However, users complained that it smelled like a gym bag! At $95, that doesn’t sound like a very good deal.

For full ratings on all 16 eye creams tested, check the October Consumer Reports magazine, or read the results online if you subscribe.

Do you use an eye cream or a simple moisturizer and sunscreen?

I bought four products from the Made from Earth skincare line–the Face Firming Serum, the Pure Aloe Face Serum and the Olive Night Cream. After two weeks of using the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum, I’m pretty pleased.

I’m skeptical by nature, and I wonder if anyone notices the change produced by skin products like these other than the user. But, I think the Vitamin Enhanced Face Firming Serum does make the skin around my eyes look smoother and lighter, and it certainly moisturizes without being greasy. I have pretty sensitive skin, and I haven’t had any redness or irritation, and certainly no pimples. I also don’t notice any scent. I find eye creams especially irritating (Clinique was AWFUL for me!) but this Made from Earth serum is very soothing. I’m pleased with the results and certainly the price!
