If this is your first baby, you may not be sure what you should bring to the hospital or birthing center when it’s time to deliver. If you’ve had a baby before, you likely know what you should have brought the first time!
So, for those of you who have planned your bags and for those of you who have no clue what to put in your bag, other than your basics of soap and sanitary napkins, what should a hospital bag contain?
If I remember correctly, my second and third bags were a heck of a lot different from my first. For one thing, I threw in lots of snacks, like granola bars. I also made sure I had some juice boxes of my favorite (real) fruit juice. I was so thirsty after I delivered that I just couldn’t stop wanting to drink.
I have a 3-pack book set sitting here waiting to be given away. If you add your suggestions or tell me what is in your hospital bag, you have a chance to win. Simply put this in the comment section below.
The three books are by Alex A Lluch:

Rules: Sorry folks, all these give aways have to have rules!
- Your post must answer the question about what you have in your bag or suggestion for the bag.
- You must provide a VALID email address (not seen by anyone but me) so you can be contacted if you are the winner.
- You have until August 31, 2008, 11:59 PM EST, to enter. Any entries after that are appreciated by not eligible to win.
And that’s it. I’ll randomize the comments to come up with the winner. I use randomizer.org to do this. After that, I’ll compile all the answers to maybe make up a dream hospital bag.

My husband and I were discussing this issue this morning. As it is our first I am sure there will be alterations later. However, we are packing a swimsuit for him in case he needs to join me in the shower to rub my back. Snacks are on the list, list of people to phone, money for the hospital parking lot.
I am going to be starting the bag packing process soon.
One thing that was helpful last time was to go and buy travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, etc. This way it can be in the bag ahead of time and is not one of the few things you are rushing around trying to find in the mad dash for the hospital.
Snacks and drinks along with the basics.
Bring a list of phone numbers of friends and family members to call after the big arrival
Phone numbers,snacks,money,puzzle games.
i had lots of jelly belly jelly beans and my cashmere socks and my daughter’s baby book.
Something to read
I suggest taking your warm socks,mp3 player and comfy robe
snacks are great, a sweater or a sweat jacket- something to throw over if its cold..yes socks. I always bring handy wipes- for myself and people visiting. Also bring a tin of hersheys kisses and hard candy0 yep for you but to have a little treat for nurses who come in and others and leave the extras with the desk. I bring a camera, no wash shampoo in cases I stay longer. Also pens, stationary and a journal, books to read. It sounds like alot but it all fits into one case. I cannot sleep in a strange place so I bring things to do from thankyou cards, to reading, to writing notes or journaling (write your baby a note the day they are born). Yep the basics are there- flipflops for the shower or walking or ballet shoes, socks for when its cold, and a nice sweat outfit.I also put my favorite pillow in my suitcase. I brought lots of underwear..yep lots because of accidents and hubs took the dirties home in his daily mail and goodie bag I preset up in case there were extra days. Most do not allow mp3s or ipods, or ours didn’t and no cell phones so phone cards are a must.
Prepare with goodie bags each day so if he has to bring exta, its all set up in a tote bag already..even extra shirts, sweats, etc. I think I overprepare but then I have never had him bring me a thong and have had enough snacks and treats, and personal items without him saying where is that, what size do you need at walmart, etc
thank you notes
Pads, snacks, and diapers!
Phone list, camera, e.t. (from our honeymoon…I sleep with it
, pad and pen
snacks, phone numbers, clothes, camera
snacks
I will definitely have socks, my own pillow, snacks, water (bottled), my camera and my laptop. I will also bring my own undies.
extra snacks and drinks
gowns, workout pants, maternity shirts, flipflops, snacks, MP3 player, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, face scrub, deo, cameras, picture of my toddler, baby’s crib picture outfit, baby gowns, onesie/pants set, going home outfit for her, pacifier, nursing pads, Motherhood Maternity nipple cream, diapers and wipes, baby socks, newborn caps. Wow, my husband had a lot to carry in, but he didn’t do it all at once. We did it gradually.
Wow…I sure have alot of things to organize. I haven’t given much thought as to what to pack since I have three months left!
comfy socks, your favorite tunes, and pictures of the family
What all I have in my bag. Couple of outfits for pictures for the babies, diapers, baby cream, fingernail clippers and lotion, soap, fluffy towel, baby book, pj, socks, hairbrush, panties, maternity shirts, flipflops, snacks, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, face scrub, deo, cameras, pacifier, nursing pads, nipple cream, diapers and wipes, baby socks, newborn caps, book to read, computer to download my pictures on, car seat, blankets.
I’m taking my book, socks, slippers, flip flops, sweats to wear home and tshirt and toothbrush and such!
I think a camera is the most important thing. There are lots of moments that you will want to remember. And make sure your memory card is empty.
Snacks and pillow.
pillow
snacks, travel size tolietries, camera, change of clothes, cell phone & charger (just in case!), car seat
A nice robe, slippers/socks, shampoo/conditoner, lotion, soap
My own shampoo and conditioner, a soft robe, body lotion, my digital camera, extra pillows, a crossword puzzle book, shower flip flops, my ipod, and snacks
thanks
I only have a package of Newborn diapers and receiving blankets, so far.
suggest an extra phone charger and baby book of course for footprints
It should have extra pairs of underwear (that you don’t mind ruining), a pair of warm socks (which may also get ruined), a camera (check the batteries and memory card), and phone numbers.
Our first baby is due any week now, and I am the paranoid type that is worried I’ll forget something when we rush out the door to the hospital when I go into labor. I have everything in my bag except the kitchen sink.
Change of clothes, bath robe, good book, socks, cell phone, address book, and digital camera (and lots of extra batteries)!!
Thanks for the contest!
