It’s a good thing my boys love me!

First let me say – or better yet, let me STRESS just how very much I hate snakes.

Now that we have that perfectly clear – have I got a story for you!

Last Saturday morning near 4:30 AM – the dogs woke wanting out just like any normal day.

I woke up and walked them to the back door realizing that the Basset had been a bit slower then the rest of us.  I went to the kitchen to scoot her near the door when I looked down at the floor by my china cabinet.  There I saw a snake.

The first thing I thought was the boys were playing a trick on me and started to ignore it when I saw the damn thing move.  YES, IT Moved!

I hurried the Basset to the door and got her outside and ran to the basement to wake Denton up.

NO Way was I going to go upstairs by myself!  No WAY, NO HOW!  I don’t care if I am cowering behind a 14-year-old boy.

When we got to the kitchen, Trey woke up from the commotion.  Denton hollered for him to stop – “Dude Stop – there’s a snake in the kitchen.  A real one!”

Trey came to a screeching hault, blinked a couple of times as the snake rounded the corner toward his room near the hall.  Once he realized we were NOT joking, he ran to Coty’s room to get him up.  Coty seems to be the snake charmer in the family and if I didn’t know better, I’d swear he was the illegitimate son of Steve Irwin.

Coty of course comes from his room calmly – grabs the snake by the tail and talks to it softly telling it “it’s ok, no one’s going to hurt you.”

WTF????? “No one’s going to HURT you?”

Yeah! Ok!  Get me a mower!

Anyway, he managed to charm the snake enough to pick it up and take it out the front door.

I know the photo isn’t very good – but I was shaking – it was FOUR THIRTY IN THE FLIPPIN’ MORNING – can’t expect a Monet by any means.  But here’s the asp that was captured in my kitchen.  This shows him rounding the cabinet and heading toward the hall.

I sure am lucky I have brave sons that are handy to protect dear old Mom.

OMG! I don’t know how you had the composure to even get the boys! I probably would have injured myself in an effort to levitate my whole body at once and then fainted!.. The caption would have read: “Woman dies from head wound/heart attack in her kitchen.. suspicious (freaked out) snake spotted leaving the scene” And then I would probably come back to leave my family urgent (haunting) messages that they must move immediately!

(When I drive over a snake in my car I HAVE TO pull my feet up! We nearly had a wreck the last time and my husband looked at me like ‘Seriously?’)

Oh my God! I would have been seriously freaking out. I would have grabbed the kid and run for the door and called 911 from the neighbor’s house!
