It’s All About Being Flexible

Whether in life or in yoga, the trick is being flexible, and going with the flow.  I’ve been sharing the details of my practice lately with friends and acquaintances, and the question I keep hearing is this:

Am I really flexible enough for yoga?

Well, of course you are–or you will be.  When I started, my hips creaked and cracked, and I felt like I was never going to be able to master any pose, even the Downward-Facing Dog. I was intimidated and frustrated.  But I stayed with it because of one simple reason–yoga is, at its core, forgiving and accepting.  You aren’t going to be an instant expert, proficient in every pose.  But over time you will see your body become more flexible and comfortable with poses you thought you’d never be able to try, let alone master.

Now it’s Sunday, and I would love to answer any questions you have about your yoga, Pilates and meditation practices. Flexibility is a great first topic.  Are you having a tough time getting into your practice, too?  I’d love to help, just send your thoughts and questions my way and I’ll get them answered for you, right here, on She Knows Yoga.

Meanwhile, take a little time today to test your flexibility.  It isn’t difficult.  Try touching your toes.  Sit on a mat or towel and see how far apart you can stretch your legs and still be comfortable.  But stretch your muscles first, then ease into it, and get started on some simple poses.  With just a little time and effort, you can get there.

Peace.

Great post- it’s really cool to see the progress that comes along when you start stretching every day and become more flexible! (and yes, that statement is meant to be applied to all aspects of life;)).
