Inspired by the 1941 Disney animated classic movie, Dumbo, a ride was opened in the Fantasyland section of in 1955, called the Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride. Disneyland in California.

Passengers could maneuver their elephant up and down moving a bar during the minute and a half rotating ride. Over time, the ride was enlarged from 10 elephants to 16.

Similar rides were also opened in Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

The original ride is one of the few original rides form 1955, that are still operating at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, California.

This is one of the original Dumbo elephants, now on display at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC.
