It’s Kitten Season

This is the time of year when shelters and cat rescues find themselves teeming with too many kittens! Yes, there is such a thing as too many kittens, sadly.
Don’t fool yourself. There are more kittens than owners who want them. Sadly, not all kittens will make it to forever homes. Obviously, the best step to reducing this problem is to have your cat spayed or neutered and to support TNR programs in your community.
But there’s still this current issue of lots of kittens this time of year. March through November has been dubbed Kitten Season.
If you have room in your home and heart, now is the perfect time to bring home a new furry pal. However, as ASPCA reminds us, during kitten season, it’s even more difficult to find loving homes for adult cats.
Some Kitten Season facts from ASPCA:
• A female cat can begin having kittens at 6 months of age
• One mother cat may produce 10 to 20 kittens in one season
• An unspayed female cat will go into heat multiple times during “Kitten Season”
• During “Kitten Season,” the number of kittens far exceeds the number of homes available
Have you adopted a kitten lately?

You know, I was thinking the other day that we could do some kitten fostering. It makes me so sad to think about how many bum cat owners there are out there.
Rachel, kitten fostering sounds great.
It’s so important for them to be cuddled during the early weeks.
