J-Lo and Marc Anthony Renew Vows…Would You?

So did you read that Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony renewed their marriage  vows yesterday in Vegas? They have been married for a whole four years.  Thy were in Las Vegas to celebrate his 40th birthday and decided to recommit to each other on the spur of the moment.  They renewed their vows at 3 :15 a.m. in the Caesars Palace’s Forum Tower Penthouse.

I think it is cool that they renewed their vows, really.  it just seems funny to me to have done it so soon.  But I think marriage in Hollywood time and marriage in real world time is like the difference between dog age and human age..so figuring it like that they have been married 28 years…sort of.

I dropped every hint in the book to Marc Audet when our 15th anniversary was coming up, that I wanted to renew our vows.  I could still fit in (the sacred)  size 6 outfit back then (moment of silence please)…and I was sewing a lot.  I had a fantasy of walking down the aisle looking fabulous in a designer wedding dress…and him being absolutely stunned at my beauty.

He. Did. Not. Get. It.

Remember, he doesn’t read between the lines.  I think I even said, “Wouldn’t it be cool to renew our vows for our anniversary?”

Apparently I was too vague.

I don’t remember what we did, but I am pretty sure that it did not include aisles, designer dresses or him being rendered speechless by my delicious self.

I think it is a good idea to renew vows, especially after there has been a near divorce or separation…or some other   significant event.  It gives the couple a chance to begin new and fresh symbolically.

I don’t really feel a need to renew them now.  My reasons for wanting to do it are gone (designer dresses, size 6, completely hot self) and they weren’t great reasons to begin with.

 Would you renew your vows?

I can see both sides, but if it is important to you than do it.

  2. david basile says:

    whatever makes you comfortable

  3. Kasey P says:

I’ve only been married a year an a half so renewing my vows isn’t something I’ve really thought about, but sometime in the future yes I probably would. My wedding was very casual the first time around, but very nice just the same. It was also a chance to have family that I don’t get to see very often to share in a special moment with me.

  4. Susan C says:

Shoot-I have been with my boyfriend for thirteen years! I’d have to talk him into getting married first!

  5. Danai says:

OK, I have to admit, I am totally not the romantic type and don’t understand renewing your vows. I appreciate you listing a few reasons as to why some might do that but it just seems to me that it’s part of being married to begin with.

  6. Shari D says:

I got married 26 years ago, but we didn’t have much of a wedding and I’ve always wanted to do it over big. Same man different party!

  7. Christy Hickman says:

I do think it is ok to renew your vows. I think whatever makes you happy and means the most to you, you should do. Thanks for the great giveaway.

  8. Monique Rizzo says:

We just had our 10 year anniversary. I would love to go on a trip every 10 years together to celebrate!

  9. Shannon Asbell says:

I would like to renew my vows but maybe in a few years

  10. Lisa F says:

    Sure I would,,but at our 25th.

  11. Michael Capp says:

    I want to win!

  12. Holly says:

We are planning on doing it for our 20th Anniversary.

Would love to win the contest

  13. Shirley Hodge says:

Seems to me just another publicity stunt. Most Hwood types like the 2 million dollar weddings so all the poor fooks can read about them and weep.

  14. Christine says:

We may still renew our vows someday. Thank you!

  15. mary enos says:

    Weekly is good!

  16. Judy G. says:

I think 4 years is a little early, I think it takes longer than that to reallyyy know who you are married to. We are going on 8 years in November
    and I’am still learning

  17. Karen says:

    Gosh I love surprises!!

  18. Ginger says:

Well, My parents never have renewed their vows, but they had awesome parties for their 25th, 35th, and 50th anniversaries.
The 50th was the best, they planned it, had my siblings and I roast them, several friends from their childhood’s came their best man and maid of honor came. wow! it was fun.

  19. MARILOUISE says:

I see nothing wrong with renewing vows that soon. I dont think that it would be a bad idea to renew on a yearly basis so both parties recall what marriage is all about.

  20. Theresa Shafer says:

If I had the money, sure. But since I hated to waste the money on the wedding the first time.

How about a renewal honeymoon??? It would be funner and would really get the marriage back on track. (giggle)

  21. CATHI RUSHING says:

    IN A HEART BEAT ~

  22. Barbara says:

My 30th anniversary is next year and we are thinking of doing a renewal!

  23. veronica sandberg says:

It is great if that is what you want to do. I don’t know if I ever would though.

  24. Kirby McCauley says:

I agree that 4 years is a bit soon, but my parents are planning on doing some sort of little something for their 25th next year & I just think it’s too sweet. I hope I’m still as nauseatingly in love with my husband after that much time!

  25. Elena says:

I wouldn’t mind renewing our vows, though I don’t have any concrete plans. Next summer is 15 years, wow! Thanks for the contest!

  26. M.A. says:

Have renewed our vows, but didn’t and don’t really need to because every caring act between us every day does it anyway.

  27. Gloria S says:

I think it is a romantic idea!

  28. pamr says:

I suppose out in la-la land you need to renew your vows after 4 years because marriages don’t last that long!? But we have no plans to do so. Thanks for the contest!

  29. Terri D says:

    Fun prize. Count me in!

  30. Kate says:

I guess in Hollywood being married for 4 years is the equivalent of 25 years to the normal folks. Just kidding, good for them for still being in love, not enough of that these days.

  31. Jennifer M says:

No, I’m happy with remembering the first time around! We’re already committed, we remember that every day, we don’t need a non-binding ceremony to express it.

  32. Jason says:

Nice giveaway, I want to win !! Thanks !!!

  33. Laura G says:

I’m thinking 9 years is a little to soon for a renewal, but I’m with Theresa S. on a renewal honeymoon – that’s something I’d be all for, lol

  34. paige chandler says:

    wow. How romantic!

  35. djp says:

    pick me pick me

  36. Angela J says:

I think it’s real sweet to renew your vows.

  37. Diana says:

I would definitely renew our vows. I would proabably wait for a defining anniversary to do it though.

  38. Shilo Beedy says:

I’m not sure if I would renew my vows but I would love to make up for my crappy honeymoon. The whole hotel had old people in it like 70 up. The place was run down and looked nothing like the brochure.

  39. Rose says:

I think that if it’s a bonding process for them, and makes them feel closer, then that’s great!

  40. Paula Harmon says:

Maybe someday, renew vows, like when I have money and nothing better to do with it….just when is that gonna happen!?!

  41. Jennifer Hedden says:

    enter me

  42. Barbara Fox says:

Next year will be our 30th anniversary. I would love to renew our vows. Just to remind ourselves that we are together because we WANT to, not because we HAVE to.

    maybe for the 50th year.

  49. reeva says:

Everyday I give thanks for my husband I feel as though I’m renewing my vows.

I’m having so much fun blog hopping during Blogtoberfest!
