Kappabashi (translation Kitchen Town), is a shopping area devoted to cooking and restaurant supplies in Tokyo. Learn more about this fun shopping area from a frequent photo contributor and Tokyo expert, Shane, who writes the The Tokyo Traveler.

The market began with just a handful of kitchen utensil stores that opened during the early Taisho era (1912-1926).  Today the long street is lined on either side with vendors selling kitchen utensils, beautiful dishes, lacquer bowls, bento boxes, knives and anything else that the home or professional chef might desire.

So if you ever need some of those silly plastic fake food items seen on display outside of some Japanese restaurants, you know where to find them.
