Kansas Schools Going Green

According to Matt Riggs, a member of the Mid-America Regional Council, he is noticing that school districts in the area of Kansas City are going green. In fact, he says that the schools may already be practicing just what they are teaching the kids.

Riggs is currently the outreach coordinator for the organization’s solid waste management team and he has become aware of more schools turning into green buildings. He also did disclose that he learnt more and more schools are already reducing the use of energy and of water. He also said that there are also moves to have greener school buses.

He also shared, “Then the school becomes the model by which kids can see things in action. …It’s more of a holistic approach.”

This is backed up by Jeff Vandel’s statement: “Each student who attends that school [Staley High School] will learn about environmental issues, and specifically how that school is environmentally friendly.” Vandel is the assistant director of operations and maintenance of the North Kansas City school district.
