Kashi Pocket Bread Sandwiches

Kashi RusticoI love the premise behind Kashi Foods, their commitment to using quality foods, no preservatives, and whole grains. However, I’ve found their prodcuts to be hit or miss. Some are delicious and some taste rather like cardboard. So I was somewhat skeptical when I picked up one of their new pocket bread sandwiches in the freezer section.

The package looked promising enough–all natural ingredients, 300 calories, no preservatives, and seven whole grains. Heck, even the box was no larger than it needed to be and was made of recycled materials.

These Kashi Pocket Bread sandwiches come in Chicken Rustico, Turkey Fiesta, and Veggie Medley flavors. I tried the Chicken Rustico and was very pleased. In addition to chicken, it’s filled with spinach, roasted red peppers, crimini mushrooms, and a tomato sauce. The “pocket” is made of seven-grain bread, but isn’t doughy and thick like traditional pocket sandwiches. They are easy to cook in the microwave; it just takes 3-4 minutes.

Kashi Pocket Sandwiches are available at most grocery stores in the organic food aisle and at retailers like Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods Market. My store (Giant Eagle in NE Ohio) has been offering register coupons for from 75 cents to $1.25 off of one or two packages. They sell them for around $3 each (before the coupons).
