Keep Kids Hydrated

stay hydratedI have just been through a scary week with my daughter who was admitted to the hospital with a kidney infection and dehydration. So I would like to take a few moments to remind everyone to ensure kids get enough fluids during outdoor activities, know the signs of dehydration, and most of all know your child! If they aren’t quite acting themselves, call the doctor.

1. Make sure kids drink water or sports drinks frequently - don’t wait until they say they are thirsty! Every 20-30 minutes is recommended.

2. Choose water and sports drinks over carbonated or caffeinated beverages. Fruits, veggies and even popsicles can be a great way to get additional fluids.

3. Just because kids are swimming in the water does not mean they don’t need additional fluids - they absolutely do!

Enjoy the summer but don’t forget the water!

This is so important, thanks for the reminder. I didn’t realize that they might need a drink as often as every 20 to 30 minutes.
