Keeping a Genealogy Research Journal

December 10, 2007 by Heather Goldsmith

While reading & researching online I came across these articles on the benefits of keeping a journal for your genealogy research.

Family Tree Magazine also some great downloads to use in your research journal.

Schoolcraft College has worksheets to download.

The Latter Day Saints topic at About.com has some excellent links on keeping a research journal here.

Genealogy Forum.com has a starting point journal writing article, with great prompts to help you include relevant details in your personal journal. A good one even if you aren’t researching family history.

If you know any good links on this topic please add them in the comments section and I will put them on this list.

Love this idea. I wish I would have done it from the day I started my research. It would be fun to read of all the excitement of discoveries, the frustration of finding out I way down the wrong track, the fun of traveling to Ireland for research, the laughs, the sadness of learning of tragedies of past generations.

  2. Hi Linda,
I’m so glad you like the idea. I’m sure it’s not too late for you, though. Hopefully something in the links will help you get started right where you are now. Your journey so far sounds fascinating. Thanks for commenting. ;-)
