Keeping Cool When the Days Heat Up

I am not a big fan of central air. It seems to get too cold so that it freezes your feet off and then cuts off until you’re actually starting to perspire before it kicks on again. So, we have a few ways we keep cool around the house when it is being a bit stuffy.

  • Use ceiling fans to circulate air throughout the house instead of turning  up the ac another notch or two.
  • Toss cotton sheets over leather, faux leather or wool upholstery. They feel cooler to sit on and don’t stick to your skin like vinyl and leather.
  • Baby powder – This stuff doesn’t only work for babies! Apply a little to elbow and knee creases and the back of your neck and you’ll feel a lot cooler. I like to add lavender to mine to make it smell nice. Or, you can buy perfumed talcum powder.
  • Make big thermoses of ice water, iced tea and lemonade. Stick a stack of cups beside them and encourage everyone to stay hydrated.

How do you stay cool and comfortable inside on hot days?
