I ran right out to buy Elle magazine as soon as it showed up on newsstands (a few days late here), since Kelly Clarkson was on the cover. No, I’m not a huge fan, but she looked great and her dress on the cover photo was amazing.
Now we know Kelly has struggled with bulimia, and in my opinion is still struggling as her weight continues to fluctuate. However, she looked nothing like herself in the photos:

As you can see, there is a huge difference. My question is why did Elle feel the need to photoshop the heck out of Kelly, until she looked like a different person? Are they that obsessed with making sure their cover models are skinny? I wonder what Kelly would have to say about this, or if she approved it?
We are way too concerned with making sure everyone in magazines or the general media looks like a cookie-cutter image. Kelly is not skinny, but that’s fine – as long as she’s healthy at her size. She’s definitely a more realistic image than most of the actresses in Holly wood today.
What do you think? Should models and actresses be photoshopped, as long as they consent to it? Let me know in the comments!

With Kelly being around the tube so much lately and it is obvious that she has put on some weight–I can’t believe Elle would make it so blatantly clear that they photoshop their photos.
On another note, Kelly is beautiful, but she just needs to dress appropriately for her weight.
Shannon, I agree, I don’t think she always dresses the best for her shape.
Let’s hope that the photos being circulated will bring to the light how concerned Elle is with photoshopping.
I think an unretouched pic of Kelly in that dress would still look great. The dress and color would actually be very flattering on someone her size. I guess photoshopping is okay if the subject gives her/his consent, but it sure is annoying for the regular girl at home! I still know tons of people that have no idea how insanely altered the pics in magazines are. (And celebrities are even digitally altered in movies too!) I would definitely like to see the fashion world and Hollywood really embrace diversity. I mean, why do we love Kelly Clarkson? Because she’s “hot” or because she can sing?? Let’s celebrate talent!

I actually didn’t know celebs were altered in movies until a friend recently made a comment about Angelina Jolie’s tattoos being “removed” for the movie screen. Well, that did make me feel a little better, although you know young girls are looking at those images and comparing themselves.

I was thinking that one day as well. I am probably kelly’s biggest fan(haha laugh it off) and i love the witty, talented kelly, she would nt be herself if she wasn t a lil over weight (that is my opinion). And Vanessa was right, its not about the image, it s about the talent and im happy someone finally said something cause it does affect lots of poeple. Thanks

Hi! Kelly is very beaufiful, funny and young. All she has to do, is live her live as she wants, have what she likes and wear every dress or closhes, she wants! That’s her choice. Is not every American idols winner, get her sucess and talent.

hey, freddy, I just was in a website, where some ppl, comment kelly’s homosexualty, they told she is fat or thinks like that. I just wrote “who says kelly is gay is f***xtupid”. and besides, what is their problem if she is gay ou fat or thinks like that!! =l ppl should grew up sometimes
Oh man, that s so stpid (not that im againts homosexuals) just people just like to start sh***.. and it get s to the point to when it get s ridiculous. I personnaly don t think that she is gay.. and even if she were , it s like the point of this whole convo that we started.. the reason people love her, and why i love her is how her personnality is, not on how she look s like, not on her sexuallity, it’s cause who she is.

This is so stupid!! Yes she’s an amazing singer but she’s also gorgeous! She’s shaped like a woman unlike most of the other stick thin excuses for women around just now and she carries herself well! And she can wear whatever she wants because she does really look good in it!! If i looked like that i’d be very happy indeed and i’d want to showing it off!

Well all i have 2 say is kelly is not fat or skinny she is NORMAL and HEALTHY! she is such a beter roll mode then rediculisly thin celebs like paris hilton and lyndseylohan! If Elle would have done photos of me and then photoshoped it I think it would hurt me a lot, because with doing this they are like saying “you are too fat for our magazine”, I would just rather not do it. And actually I don’t really like the Elle pics of her, she would look so much better if they wouldn’t photoshoped her, curves are beautiful, curves=women in my opinion. Kelly is the best, love her, she is amazing, I love her personality, since the first day in American Idol, she was so funny, she got to sit even in the judge’s chair on her audition, how cool is that, she was born to sing and entertain.

i completely agree. they really photoshopped all of that weight off of her? i know her weight fluctuates but that’s rediculous. and she would look great in that dress. they shouldn’t have done anything. i do think that she could stand to lose a few pounds but in a healthy way. and even if she doesn’t lose the weight, she really should wear more weight-appropriate clothing.
but i do know first hand that sometimes when you gain weight, you don’t notice it at first and you continue to wear the same types of things, even if they begin to look a little less than flattering. but you’d think after that much weight gain that she’d just not want to wear a top like that… and i’d b*tch like crazy if someone at a mag asked me if they could photoshop me to make me look thinner, and just be all around pissed if they did it without my consent.
Kelly is much more beautiful than all the other stars i the U.S(they look like skeletons) i hope she knows that, and about her sexuallity why does anybody care about that, i really don´t understand why!?
Kelly clarkson is beautiful the way she is!! i have a skinny sister tht watched her breakaway video and said ew kelly’s fat… and i cudnt help but think my sister’s as superificial as the million others tht think stick thin is the thing to be!!! She’s got wonderful shape and the few exra pounds make her look sexy… maybe not commercially… but shes definitely sexy in her own way…

Kelly is one of the most beautiful women in the music industry. Her curves are real and they are gorgeous. I’m no ‘chubby-chaser,’ but I appreciate a real woman, not a wafer thin waif. Kelly is an Idol, without a doubt!
who really cares?? I mean look at her in the 2nd pic!! thats not fat! seriously people Kelly is beautiful inside and out, she isnt fat, she isnt skinny, she is the PERFECT size. Besides she’s a singer not a model!
I think Kelly looks beautiful in both pictures. I think she is really good looking. And if anyone was a real fan of kelly’s, they would like despite what she looks like. I agree that she may have gained weight. But she still looks good and she dosnt look gross. Everyone also needs to remember that she is going to wear what is comfortable for her on stage. She is not going to wear something that makes her look good but makes it hard to sing.(I personally like what she wears on stage too.)

Looking at this, i just want to say that why would anyone even put these two pictures up against eachother.. Of course there’s a difference, one is a magazine cover of ELLE (a very growing and prominent famous one at that!)
I think it was wrong of them to photoshop her picture to SUCH an extent…But in a way, sadly, it is their job which they HAVE to do. it sucks but it’s true.. Maybe Kelly is sick in a way(hopefully not) and its not her fault, or the magazines.. maybe she lost that much weight in time.. we never know. ANYWAY, i love her SOO much, a really big fan, and she’s beautiful no matter what. the voice is what counts so much

I’m one of those extremely thin girls, simply because I am athletic, that’s what I enjoy doing. But honestly I think Kelly looks better than me. I think I look thin and sickly but I can’t gain a pound, and I’ve tried. A bit off topic, but same with Hilary Duff(never was a fan) but she seriously looked better NOT uber thin. I hate what happens to all the celebs and I hope Kelly doesn’t go the same way because she looks healthy and beyond beautiful as is!
Kelly Clarkson is totally awesome, and I personally think it’s stupid that people have to make her look different just to put her on the front of a magazine. What’s wrong with the way she looks? I mean, so what if she’s not a size 2? Does it matter? Is anyone gonna hate her if she’s not? She’s still Kelly, she can still sing, and she’s still awesome. I kind of think Kelly is more realistic than the often fake looking stars we see ALL the time. Even though she struggles with bulimia, I think people can say, “Hey, look at Kelly Clarkson! She’s not super-thin, but she can sing and people like her.” I think it stinks that so many stars and people think that they have to be thin to be cool. We live in such an artificial world, I long for the day when people step up and show themselves for who they are, not how they wish they were. I respect people that are honest more than people who APPEAR perfect and are hiding themselves. Kelly rocks, and I hope she never tries to hide how beautiful she is with fake images.
Sofia and Freddy you are so right on the website they think she is fat and is a lesbian and that no guy would date her. They just wish to be her. If Kelly is happy and remains talented that is all that should matter. Why should we not like her did we vote for her because she was pretty no we voted because she is talented.

Personally I find Kelly in the second, untouched photo far more appealing and sexier than the Elle photo.
I’m not a huge celeb chaser/admirer, but there is just something about Kelly that has always lit my fire.
I don’t see a lot of women that can pull off both cute and sexy at the same time, but Kelly does it for me and always has.

The whole idea of making normal people look like “stick thin” models is ridiculous! Kelly has a really pretty shape without them doing all the touch up work. I think they should just give people the real thing cause when girls look @ Elle’s work they think thats how everyones supposed to look and its not true! Everyone has there own unique shape and if they don’t like it then they can deal with it!

Kelly has been slammed with more comments lately, and I can’t help but feel a little bad for her. She’s so pretty, and I personally think that she looks even better now that she’s gained some weight. She looks healthy. Now, she has a nice, voluptious figure, and child-bearing hips – she looks fertile. It’s nice to see that so many people agree.
First off, Kelly isn’t an actress or a model. She’s a singer. So what’s weight got to do with that? Plenty of thin/chubby to fat singers out there. People want to hear your voice, not your weight. Other than that, she looks healthy and slender (slim, but not fat or chubby). The elle photo you show – she is in a baggy black suit – who wouldn’t look thin in that? Why would they even need to photoshop it? And then she’s in a navy blue slimming dress. If you have on tight jeans, the curves of your rump, hips and belly show more. In a dress, those all are smoothed over. She has a total pear shaped body, tiny waist, flat chest, but big hips, so a dress like the one she wore is perfect for her, and shows off her tiny waist, but downplays the hips/rump etc.. I don’t see where you get off saying she’s photoshopped. Beyond all that, she dresses just like the rest of the trendy kids her age, what is she supposed to be wearing, spanx & a JCPenny business suit? What is “appropriate” for her age and profession anyway? she looks great IMO.
