Could Enron founder Ken Lay’s heart attack have been brought on by the prolonged stress of his indictment and conviction? According to Dr. Robert Myerburg, maybe not.
First of all, Lay didn’t suffer a heart attack the day his guilty verdict was handed down so acute stress didn’t cause his death. And the trial of Lay’s criminal case didn’t last long enough to have increased the amount of atherosclerosis or other signs of heart disease. People are still speculating that stress caused Ken Lay’s heart attack because that would be far more sensational, wouldn’t it?
WebMD has some tips on how to cope with stress.
- Eat and drink sensibly.
- Assert yourself.
- Stop smoking.
- Exercise regularly.
- Relax every day.
- Take responsibility.
- Cut causes of stress.
- Examine your values and live by them.
- Set realistic goals and expectations.
- Build your self-esteem.
- Get enough rest.
