Kidman Out to Lunch?

July 14, 2008 by Marcie

Nicole Kidman gave birth on Monday, July 7. According to People, On Friday she was seen lunching with friends, dressed casually and fresh faced.

Now, I don’t know much about birthing a child but I do know that if she gave birth on Monday she would most likely still be hospitalized until Wednesday, right? So, two days home with an infant, natural or a Cesarean birth I would assume she would be at least a tad weary.

My guess is that she has both a Night Nurse and a full time nanny because otherwise she would be totally sleep deprived with a newborn.

Or, perhaps the rumors are true…that she was never really pregnant?

That doesn’t seem so out of the realm of possibility to me. My first child was born on Saturday, I went home Monday, and on Tuesday I drove 90 miles to pick up my mom from the airport. With the baby, because I don’t have a nanny of any sort. So…could be.

I am sort of inclined to think “never pregnant”, although I don’t really see any upside for her. When I would see photos I always thought she looked odd…like she wasn’t really as far along as she said she was. But…I have no first hand experience so who knows, right? Stranger things have happened.

Not every birth is hard, and that means some are easy! It is not standard to stay in the hospital two days post childbirth, at least in the hospitals I’ve worked in. 24 hours and boom, you’re out of there! Too bad if the baby hasn’t figured out how to latch on yet… Insurance dictates.

If she gained little weight and was in great shape, I don’t see why she shouldn’t feel well enough to go out for lunch. Has anyone else experienced a home birth with a mom who did the healthy mostly vege/organic/exercise thing? I haven’t done it, but I’ve observed it (I wanted to be a midwife…) and they bounced back amazingly. In many cultures (including the Amish) women work right up to the delivery, and go back to work soon after.

I would take help during the night if I were in her position. Wouldn’t you if you could? Even just to bring the baby to you for breastfeeding, to change the diaper, do the laundry, why shouldn’t she sleep? I’d sleep more if I could afford it, and I don’t even have a child at home yet!

And, maybe she’s not breastfeeding, so doesn’t need to be up with the baby every feeding. She does have a husband who might want his own bonding time with the baby. (Also, there are legitimate reasons for not breastfeeding, like taking any of a million of medications that are ill advised for the baby).

Really, though, why does it matter? Aren’t there more important things to do in life than worry about Nicole Kidman’s lunches, or ponder if she would fake a pregnancy?? Like, take a nap? or eat lunch? ;-) mmmmm, I’m hungry!
