Kindness

“As every parent of a child with special needs knows, some days you can handle it; other days you just lose it,” the New Jersey mother of an autistic son notes. But her faith in “the world” is restored when, recently and out of the blue, other people gave up their places in line at a walk-in medical clinic, and her son did not have to wait.
Restores my faith, too.
That was a nice story. I hate having to go to the Dr office without an appt and wait, but usually we call ahead of time and let them know and we get in fairly quick, years ago they learned after everyone had a meltdown and we walked out. I called the manager and explained autism to her.
That’s a neat story! I’ve had people do the same thing for us, although I think it might have been because of my screaming 3 year old NT son!
I love that story. Despite many of my blogs on staring and sometimes not so friendly folks, I have experienced similar acts of kindness on my son’s behalf, and I am always moved and grateful. There are good people in this world!

Charlie has gotten much better about waiting in the waiting room—I’ve been letting him take his backpack in with his stuff (if wants to) and explaining what’s going to happen (including “being bored”).
But there were so many exhausting waits when he was younger, couldn’t sit, was crammed into a really small space with so many other sick kids and frazzled moms—amazing I didn’t catch something from the whole stressful experience!
Wow! That is incredible. Something simple and yet it can make such an enormous impact on so many people.

‘Waiting’ is a challenge for everyone.
That was a beautiful story – a perfect way to begin the day.
No one has given up their place in line for us.. but we have met some nice people that have helped without being asked, and without taking over.
I remember this woman in the store who walked out with us. Eldest was chatting a mile a minute with her, I explained what was up, little boy was in the stroller at the time, and she made certain we all arrived at the van safely. Smiled, told him to be good, waved and walked away… No idea who she was.
We’ve had others.
Just not in Dr’s offices.
