For the third time since 2004, Knoxville, Tennessee has had bad rep of being the MOST CHALLENGING PLACE TO LIVE WITH ASTHMA in the U.S.

The city ranked #1 in 2004 and in 2005, and now again in 2008, because of several factors –

  • higher-than-average annual pollen count
  • high pollution
  • lack of any public smoking bans
  • high use of asthma “rescue” medications per patient

Which cities are worst places for an asthma sufferer to live in?

Top 10 Asthma Capitals for 2008 2008 Rankings

1.   Knoxville, TN
2.   Tulsa, OK
3.   Milwaukee, WI
4.   Atlanta, GA
5.   Memphis, TN
6.   Allentown, PA
7.   Charlotte, NC
8.   Greenville, SC
9.   St. Louis, MO
10. Greensboro, NC

Should you move? Since every city in the U.S. has some some risk factors for asthma, it is very difficult to actually move away from your asthma. Instead, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) recommends to work with an asthma specialist who can help you manage your symptoms and conditions no matter where you live.
