Add Kraft Foods to the list of companies addressing the issue of sustainable food production. The company, who makes a variety of food products from cheese to bologna to coffee, recently released their goals and achievements in this field.

In 2008, Kraft Foods increased their coffee purchases from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms by more than 50 percent, making them that co-op’s largest buyer. Kraft is also working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to invest $90 million over five years to advance the sustainable production of cocoa and cashews in Africa.
In addition, Kraft has set goals to reduce its plant energy use by 25 percent, reduce its plant energy-related carbon dioxide emissions by 25 percent, reduce its plant water consumption by 15 percent, and reduce its plant waste by 15 percent.
