Lemonade Stands Are Still Around

Over the weekend I went looking around at garage sales, this is not something I normally do but it was a ton of fun. First, we found a few fun items such as 60’s music (my favorite), video games (kids favorite), t-ball stand (Little A will love) and a few other odds and ends. But the thing that surprised me the most was at the corner of a street, there were these two little girls with a stand in front and a sign that read:

.50 for Lemonade
I thought it was just too cute, these girls were roughly the same age as my oldest daughter. They had their stand, which looked to be a counter from a playhouse, a whiteout board with black marker and their lemonade in a container with an ice chest sitting nearby. The girls were filling up the cups with ice and then the drink. Now I honestly hate lemonade but thought the other kids would enjoy a fresh cup of something cold on a hot day. They loved it.
This got me thinking of childhood days when we would do this very thing. Did you ever do a lemonade stand?

I never sold lemonade, but I tried to sell rocks out of my little red wagon. I sold one to a lady, and my mom made me give her a refund. About a month later the pet rock craze hit. I was on to something but my mom shut me down. I still razz my mom about that… I coulda’ made a ton of money.
In my marketing course the ‘Lemonade Stand’ is considered a great business model. For me however, it reminds me of my entrepreneurial spirit when I was a kid. I would think up a million and 1 ways to make money. Bake sales, art shows out of my bedroom, cleaning houses, and walking dogs. Of course, like most kids at 11 I began babysitting. But whenever I see a kid with some ice and a pitcher of lemonade, I always stop.
