Let Phelps Rescue You

Phelps is a 7-year-old sweet and friendly Retriever mix taken in by Last Hope Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation, a small private rescue that helps dogs and cats from local shelters. He presently lives at Last Hope’s Dog Center on Long Island.

As you might guess, Phelps is a very good swimmer. In May, he was found swimming across a large canal in Babylon, NY. He spent three months at the Babylon Town Shelter before being fostered at Last Hope. In August, Phelps had a lump removed from his hind leg. It had previously tested benign, but it ended up being a mast cell stage 2. Yet, the cancer was removed during surgery and fingers are crossed that it won’t come back. Phelps is being treated with prednisone and Claritin for skin allergies.
Phelps has lived the life of a stray, but he’s now housebroken and longing for a new home with someone who has a big heart. Sure, there’s a chance his cancer will return, but Phelps has likely never known a loving home of his very own. Plus, he gets along well with most other dogs.
I’m featuring Phelps in honor of National Shelter Appreciation Week. If you can’t adopt Phelps, you can still show your appreciation to any shelter or rescue by making a donation or adopting a companion animal.
