Let’s hear it for the boy(s)

I know that this is Inside Motherhood, and because of the title and the fact that I am, after all, a mother, I feel compelled to share my mothering moments and others like it. I do try to post things that are of interest to fathers as well, but I want to take it a step further today and take a moment to make sure you know about some of the excellent blogging dads out there.

Reading about parenting written from the point of view of a father is fun for me. Traditionally, fathers went to work, came home, perhaps played catch in the yard or drove Hot Wheels around the living room, and that was basically it. Heck, my father-in-law wasn’t even able to be in the room with either of his kids were born; we’ve come a long way baby.

Because fathers weren’t always as present in the day-to-day basics of child-rearing, it is refreshing in this day and age to find so many dads blogging about their thoughts on their kids and the world of parenting as a whole. Especially when they do it well.

Cry It Out: Adventures of a Stay-At-Home Dad is one blog that I can not pass up. If I see that Mike has updated, I will drop just about anything I am doing to go read. The man can spin a story in the most wonderful way you can imagine and he inspires me to write more intensely. (A look at my personal blog shows I am failing at that endeavour. Alas.) Read, you won’t be sorry, except for the fact that you will later wonder how you spent three hours reading a stranger’s archives without noticing the crick in your neck.

Often taking a humourous approach to life, Dad Gone Mad is practically obligatory reading if you wish to delve into the world of Dad Blogs.

He hasn’t been updating as frequently due to summer activities, but Metro Dad will make you think, and lay it all out for you as he talks about life with his daughter in the big city.

For a feeling as though you’re sitting and having a face-t-face conversation, check out Creative-Type Dad.

And of course, I can’t introduce you to Dad Blogs without sending you over to the flipside of this one, the awesome Inside Fatherhood blog, written by Bill – definitely stop by!

That’s only a tiny selection of so many great dad blogs out there. Do you have a favorite that I should be reading? Feel free to pimp one in the comments – even if you’re a dad and it’s your own blog!

First! (Ha! Always wanted to say that.)
    Hi Sherry,
I’m glad to have found you and this post. I’ve been searching for some good Daddy bloggers, but mostly came up empty. Your recommendations are very useful.

I’ve found, reading comments on other dad blogs, that a big percentage of readers of Dad blogs are women.

  2. Thanks for the great recommendations! May I offer one of my own? I really enjoy reading Thingamababy (http://www.thingamababy.com/baby/).

That is so fantastically kind and gracious that people will think I paid you to write that. (What was your address again? Is check OK?)

Seriously, thanks very much for making my day.

    Mike
