Neuropathy is a painful nerve problem and nerve pain is one of the most difficult types of pain to treat. People who have diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic neuropathy, which can cause severe pain, particularly on the feet. People who have had shingles can develop a condition called postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), which is severe nerve pain along the nerves where the shingles rash appeared.
At a pain conference going on in Scotland right now, the results were presented of a study using a lidocaine patch, an anesthetic patch for neuropathy. You can read more about the study and its findings in this article from the Doctor’s Guide to the Internet: Lidocaine Patch Soothes Neuropathic Pain as Effectively as Pregabalin, But Has Better Tolerability: Presented at WCP
