Life In The Fast Lane | Live Fast, Die Young

hammock These days we live life fast. You’ve heard it before, everything has to be fast. Fast food, fast internet, fast lane, fast money, fast, fast, fast. I’m all about having a sense of urgency and getting things done, but there are just moments that you have to slow down and enjoy life.

I read an article about driving over 60 MPH and how much more it burns your gas than if you drove 60 or below. You can read it here Treehuggingfamily.com , It’s quite interesting. So I figured I would try it out and see if I could tell a difference in my gasoline consumption. So at a 60 mph pace on my way to work I noticed that it was quite relaxing. Not only was it relaxing, but I was saving gas and attempting to be a little “greener”.

We are constantly busy day in, day out. I work 8.5 to 9 hours a day at my full time job. When I get home I make an effort to post a few posts on my Metal blog and try to get one or two in here. Somewhere in there I try to find a bit of time for myself. You may notice that I rarely post anything here on Saturdays. Those are my days to try to recharge. Kick back and nap on the couch a bit during the day and throw back a few beers on the back deck if the weather permits.

What I’m trying to get at is this: If you don’t take some time to slow down once in awhile and enjoy life, it will pass you by. It can be unhealthy both mentally and physically if you don’t take the time to relax. So this weekend, don’t make plans. Just get up Saturday morning when your body says it’s time to get up. Make some coffee, step outside and get some fresh early morning air, turn on the radio and prepare yourself for absolutely nothing.

Scott, this is an excellent post. And not just because of the link (although thanks). I personally think a lot of the reasons people are so stressed, less green, and not so happy is the pace we ride. It’s nuts. It’s so much better to be chill for all sorts of reasons. We all could slow down some, good advice. I’ll link this during our Earth Day wrap-up.

Thanks Jen. It’s tough on everything when everything is constantly GO-GO-GO! Sometimes you just have to put some things on hold and pull the e-brake on life for a bit.
