Life lessons and office politics

bossday.bmpLifehacker has a list of ways to Steer Clear of Office Politics, and, I think it’s all good advice, even though I think you have to be in tune with the office culture in oder to survive.

But, as I was reading the list, it occurred to me that this revolutionary information, like many other things, is actually what our parents probably taught us (e. g. avoid gossip, respect territory, there are other good lessons for our kids today.

It’s all about doing the right thing with people you encounter, and, the important points can be applied to friendships, too.

I’m terrible at keeping up on office happenings — who’s dating someone new, who got mad because of X. I really make an effort sometimes, but apparently I’m not the sort to inspire people to gossip with me.

That said, my office doesn’t really get into the whole office politics thing in a big way, for which I am grateful. But I continue to be astounded at people I know who DO have tales of woe about coworkers backstabbing them, taking credit for work they’ve done, etc. I don’t know how people deal with that!!
