Liz Has a New Nose for Smell
In case anyone was worried about Liz missing the genes for sense of smell, Jessica Duquette was kind enough to give her a new nose! Unfortunately, it doesn’t do much except sharpen pencils. Maybe we can get Liz a sniffer dog for her birthday.
If you’re interested in learning more about the olfactory receptor genes, Dr. Laurence Moran has more at Sandwalk.

I’m laughing too hard to comment!!
Hsien Hsien, thank you! You certainly made good use out of that photo!
The funny thing was, I brought that pencil sharpener for Liz without knowing her loss of sense of smell and when she started talking about it, I whipped out that nose. It was a precious moment!
thanks for your blog, it’s fascinating…
warmly,

Liz: Thanks for sharing!
Jessica: Hi! We must all belong to the same hive mind.
OMG, this is absolutely hysterical! I thought it was funny at the dinner – but this post is the icing on a very rich cake! (Which, unfortunately doesn’t smell very much… but I guess if we made it a lavender scented cake in Liz’s honor, it would be ok – what do you think?)
