Looking For Love in Your Past

My boyfriend, Steve, was my boyfriend during my senior year of high school.  We spent February-August of 1984 together.  He was with my family so much that my mom set up a bed for him in our house.

Steve was a year behind me in school and when he went back for his senior year, we broke up fairly quickly.  I’m afraid to ask the exact reason he broke it off, I suspect that it had with his age, his buddies, and a girl he went out with a few months before we met.  Whatever the reason, I was broken-hearted and he told me that later that when he wanted to fix it, he didn’t know how.

After dating and loving Steve, I compared every guy I met to him.  Even my husband – now my ex, of course.  None of them stood up to him in a comparison.  He was funny and cute and tall and warm and his kisses were……. he was it.  I knew it then, I knew it later, but knowing it didn’t do me much good.

A few years ago, I tried to find him through Classmates.com and he wasn’t listed. I put up a “Do you know where Steve is?” post and no one responded.  Last Spring, I was looking at the site again and there he was, right on the list of alumni.  I emailed him and we began a pen pal-type friendship, which later blossomed into something else.  It was so easy to fall back into that old love.  It feels a bit like coming full circle or finding completion.  I liked knowing that I was right the first time around – he was and is the one for me.

If you are thinking about a lost love, why don’t you see if there’s a way to reconnect?  Even if it ends up as just a friends thing, it’s great to see how those old pals turn out.  For more on reconnecting, take a look at this article First Loves, Second Chances from MORE Magazine
