Losing Your Hair to Breast Cancer Treatment

I just read this online article at Health.com called 7 Women Who Lost Their Hair to Breast Cancer Treatment and What They Did About It. To my surprise, I am quoted in the piece (I remember being interviewed by Health.com, but didn’t know the article was scheduled to appear and didn’t know the context in which I’d be quoted.)
“Adds Karen Lynch, 40, a writer who blogs about breast cancer (www.pinkribbonreview.com) in Fairfield, Conn., “the uncertainty about losing your hair is a huge thing. I don’t know why we’re so wrapped up in our hair, but we are.”
It’s a little ironic that I’m quoted in this piece — I never lost my hair because I never had chemo. But I did face the fear that I’d lose it both times I was diagnosed.
Chime in … especially if you did lose your hair. Why do you think it is so painful for us to realize that loss? Why does hair matter so much to us?
