Love Those Summer Farmer’s Markets

I love shopping at farmer’s markets during the summer. Starting in the early spring with greens, green onions, Spring flowers, and other early season goodness. I get excited when the farmers markets start featuring local fruits and vegetables. There’s no better flavor than a local grown strawberry, or melon. Don’t even get me started on how awesome a locally grown tomato can taste.
Through the summer I grow quite a bit of my own produce, but what I don’t grow I try to find at my local farmers markets, or street side produce stands for several reasons.
- It’s usually cheaper than supermarket produce.
- Better flavor, it doesn’t even compare!
- Support local growers (especially if they’re growing organically and sustainably)
Do you have a favorite local farmer’s market?

We have a few that we love, and my sister in law even sells soap and fresh cut flowers from her own garden. I like to help support the smaller farm markets and help encourage people in their endeavors.
my mom brought me some fresh-picked strawberries from her garden today. Yummy
I go on Saturdays to a farmer’s market in Inwood in upper Manhattan. I have been buying strawberries, green garlic, asparagus and ramps recently. There are local eggs, cheese and Finger Lakes wine as well as turkey, apples, mushrooms and spinach. I find the food much better than supermarket selections.
