Lower Breast Cancer Risk by Drinking More Milk?

Increase Your Calcium Intake for Better HealthYes, there’s yet another reason for lively ladies to up their calcium intake: It fights breast cancer! And drinking milk is a particularly good way to do it, because both calcium and vitamin D have been associated with this preventive effect in animals.

Results from a recent study from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston suggest that women with higher calcium and vitamin D intake have a lower risk of developing premenopausal breast cancer. The connection isn’t conclusive, but given the other health benefits of increasing your calcium intake, what do you have to lose?

    Thanks for sharing this study! Milk intake in moderation may also lower the risk of colorectal cancer. On the other side of the equation, a high intake of milk has been associated with an increased risk of ovarian and prostate cancer, so as with most things in life, moderation is key!

    I would love to see who paid for this study, Since the dairy industry will cease pushing the idea that drinking milk helps you lose weight – have you noticed how large calves and cows get? – they will have to come oup with something else to press adults into drinking something that probably has less value than leafy greens vegetables and yogurt.

    This probably goes without saying, but be sure that milk you’re drinking is free of hormones and antibiotics. Yuck.
