You can get a prescription from a dermatologist for a lightening cream, however, I would strongly advise against it. I had a reaction to the cream, apparently a common one, that left me with an ugly, unsightful rash for over six months. It's still lingering, and is much more unsightly than the melasma. The melasma has definitely lightened over time, so that may be your best option. In the meantime, mineral makeup is a godsend. I got pregnancy mask in my last two pregnancies.
