Make Your Own Fitted Cloth Diapers…It’s Easy

While I used cloth diapers with all of the kids it wasn’t until number five or six that I began making their diapers. Fitted diapers just were not something you saw a lot of back in the ’80s.
Cloth diapers are great. Great for the environment, great for your wallet, great for your baby. When you make your own you fit them exactly to your baby’s size and wetting needs. No leaks, ever!
I found that burly terry worked the best for the soaker, while fleece made a stay dry interior and cute flannel made it look good. Honestly, I have no idea why something that absorbs baby pee needs to look good but there ya go. It does.
You can embellish anyway you want, sew ruffles to the outside, use cute materia, stencil it, whaever. Just make sure that whatever you do is washable and sill stand up to alot of washes.
Be sure to use bathing suit elastic in the legs and waist. It will stay good for the life of the diaper because it is made to be wet.
Here is an article with instructions that I wrote several months ago. Rather than reinvent the wheel I will just send you there. How to Make Cloth Diapers
If you can sew at all you can do this. It is really not difficult..especially once you make the first one.
And hey, you can sell these on ebay when you are done. I literally made more from my used diapers than I spent in making them new!

Yup…I need to get to work this weekend… I have mine half cut out… need to get them done.
yes you do! Monica do you use wool covers?
Sometimes… I tend to just have her go coverless around the house, it makes sure she gets changed promptly. I’m currently working on 7 pair of baby longies/tights in a wool blend for this winter… I love how fast they work up! (I have 2 1/2 pair done already…)
yeah but Monica..you are the knitting queen
riiiiiight……. LOL!! (3 pair done!!)
LOL!
