Making Chores Fun

I’m totally taking a page from my friend, Char, when it comes to preparing for the spring/summer break. There really is a simple answer to getting those kids to do their chores without all the fuss. Don’t get me wrong, there will surely be some type of fuss, after all we are talking about kids.
There are several fun ways you can get your children to take part in their part of the chores you need done. Always keep in mind if they really don’t want to do it you can state one of the following:
- No video games, TV, computer games, etc. (whatever hurts them)
- No going outside until it is DONE. (that’ll get them)
- You want to be grounded? Stick to it though.
- Take their cell phone away if it poses a problem.
Char came up with a Summer Chore Chart, take a peek at it and see what you can do to make it fit your Spring/Summer Break. One thing Char found out one afternoon was that she could have fun giving her kids chores and they had fun as well. Yes, believe it or not you can make chores fun.
Draw a Chore:
- Cut out strips of paper and write a chore on each one
- Toss the strips in a bowl
- Draw a strip
- Let each child know they can NOT trade with the others.
- Set a timer and see who comes back to the room first, completely done.
This of course can definitely be competitive, but you will get a clean house a lot quicker than normal. Now if you have small kids you may want to do everything except when it comes time to draw a room. When that time comes have one of them pick one strip of paper and see which room EVERYONE cleans together.
When the timer goes off, (we set our timer for 15 minutes) we get a 5 minute break and then draw again. Once all the rooms are done we pick from another bowl of something fun to do.
Just a thought. How do you get your kids to have fun with their chores?

That’s a nice idea of making the kids do their chores!
