Making time for the mundane

Are you finding time to go to your kids plays at school? Have you been to each of their basketball games this year?

Good. That is a good start but not the only thing good parents need to do.

Despite working full time, you still need to make time for the mundane things. Pick you kid up from school or get them off the bus when you can. Help them with their homework. Read stories to them at night. Take them to the library.

Attending the big, fun events is exciting and shows that you care about your kids. However, these events make up a small percentage of your kids life and should be pretty easy to attend fairly regularly.

Involving yoursef in the more mundane events shows that you care for your kid and want to be a part of any and every part of their life. It also helps you learn the little things, like their friends’ names, the name of the hamster in their classroom, their favorite subjecs in school, and all the little things that parents always seem to have trouble learning.

The mundane events are actually more difficult to participate in a lot of the time. You have to make a real commitment to being involved in your kids lives every day.

But, when you are at a Christmas party 10 years from now and are able to remember the hamster in their preschool, it will all be worth it.
