Cystic fibrosis, a disease diagnosed in childhood. It was usually fatal before adulthood but is now more of a chronic disease as new treatments are allowing people with CF to live well into adulthood. Men and women who were told that they wouldn’t live into their 20s are now married and even having families.
Men with CF are often told that they can’t have children. One of the defects in the body caused by CF is a malformation in the vas diferens, the tube that carries the sperm from the testicles to be ejaculated in the semen. So, men who want to be fathers may have to jump through a few hoops before that is possible – and their partner has to be willing to jump through some hoops of her own.
But – it can happen and 44-year-old Brad Hildebrandt is proof of that. He and his wife are the parents of twins through the miracle of science. You can read about Brad’s amazing story in this article: Dad with CF beats infertility, hits a double.
