Manuel Uribe Loses 400 Pounds Through the Zone Diet
Belated happy 43rd birthday to Manuel Uribe, listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the heaviest living man in the world. Manuel has lost more than a third of his body weight and now weighs just over 800 pounds, by subscribing to the so-called Zone Diet. According to Dr. Barry Sears, creator of the Zone Diet,
“Manuel’s ability to lose more than 400 pounds without resorting to weight loss surgery is a remarkable accomplishment. His success can be attributed to the fact that he’s never hungry because his all-star medical team is stabilizing the hormones that control hunger through diet and high levels of omega-3 fish oil with EPA and DHA.”
I’m interested to know what foods “stabilize the hormones that control hunger” and how, particularly if they are referring to leptin. As far as I know, modulation of leptin is still being studied in animal studies. I’d remain skeptic until I’ve read manuscripts on human clinical studies.
I read about this and it is amazing that he’s been able to lose so much weight already. I don’t know anything about the Zone diet. I had never heard of it before this, but I’d be interested to learn more about it.
