Many Comments About Restraints for Alzheimer’s Patients

When I wrote, Do You Believe in Restraints for Alzheimer’s Patients? recently, I received a number of thought provoking responses.  I’m going to follow up on this topic further and would appreciate more responses so I can get a good idea what various people think…whether you’re a professional caregiver, a family member, or someone who isn’t a caregiver.

The Alzheimer’s patient’s desire for wandering presents a grave problem for caregivers.  Their ability to circumvent locks and closed doors is uncanny.  Their lack of consequences thinking often leaves them with no fear of danger.
