March madness – I think I know why it’s called that

For those of you who live in the colder parts of North America, I think we understand the true meaning of March madness. It has nothing to do with college sports, Tim Horton’s Roll-Up-the-Rim-to-Win, or anything like that. It has to do with “would winter please go away!”
Actually, I really don’t mind winter itself. I don’t mind the snow, the cold bothers me because I hate, hate, hate being cold, but winter itself is ok. Of course, when I say that, I’m not about to pay another oil bill for our heating – ask me then what I think about winter.
But what I don’t like about winter are the short days and the long nights. I hate the day getting dark early. I want to see the sun. I find that once the darkness starts seeping in earlier every day, I stop going outside, I won’t hop into the car to go out, I just hibernate until the days start to get longer again.
And, that’s been happening. It’s now still light outside around 6 pm and it’s getting better. March means that we’re not over winter yet – we can still get walloped by a snowstorm or two and a major freeze, but it also means that warmer weather is in sight. It’s coming…..
