March Madness: St. Baldrick’s Style!

St. Baldrick's DayMarch means more than college basketball. It even means more than green beer! I’ll pause long enough for you to pick yourself up off the floor from either disbelief or laughter… Ready? OK.

March means St. Baldrick’s Day is upon us! St. Baldrick’s started in 1999 when three guys played chicken with a pair of clippers to raise money for children’s cancer research. Well, the clippers – and the kids – won big time. In the past 7 years more than US$20 million have been raised and 26,000 heads have been shaved.

I just missed the event last year, but I hope to highlight the 2007 festivities. Let’s start with Brian Blacknick.

Brian Blacknick - St. Baldrick's Day ParticipantHi, Brian!

Brian’s got quite a head of hair, don’t you think? I’m not sure all the hair that’s ever sprouted from my skull over the entire course of my lifetime would be that long.

Brian’s had that mane for many years, but this is the year he shaves his head. Why? “Here in the US, more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease. Please help by making a donation on my behalf to support childhood cancer research so that all children diagnosed with cancer will have a better chance for a cure.”

Brian’s set a goal of raising $1000, and he’s three-quarters of the way there. Why don’t you pop over to his St. Baldrick’s page, send him a 10-spot and help put him over the top?

Thanks for publicizing my St.Baldrick’s event Cory. I’ve told friends, family, and posted on my blog that for every $100.00 raised over my $1000.00 goal I will keep my head shaved bald for one month.

Last evening my good friends Chris and Gipsy generously donated a hundred dollars to the St.Baldrick’s Foundation and sent me over that thousand buck mark.

Even though my head shaving event takes place on March 16th my page on the St. Baldrick’s website will remain open to accept donations throughout the year.

    Brian,
My pleasure and congrats on hitting your goal!
