Marriage Proposals: Share the Moment

If you are married it had to happen; the marriage proposal.
From the moment of conception (almost) girls dream of that romantic moment when the love of their life sweeps them off their feet with the most romantic marriage proposal ever. Generally that is followed closely by the. wedding. fantasy.
In the interest of Valentine’s Day I had an awesome idea.
I thought it would be fun to share proposals. Do you have a unique proposal story? Share it in the comments section. Even if it is not unique go ahead and share it.
Did you propose with flowers? On bended knee? By email? By pony express?
I know there are some great, romantic stories out there.
And if we get enough stories we may do a giveaway.

The short version of our engagement is…
my fiance went with my dad and brother “fishing” all day long! They had been visiting jewelry stores most of the day. When my man came back to my house, he told me to look in the cooler and see what he caught. It was a stuffed whale with a lifejacket. The ring was tied to it and my fiance got on his knee and asked me to marry him.
He pulled up in the nasty alley behind my cheap apartment and proposed before I got out of his flat bed truck. No romance.
Ironically, at least five other gals who had lived in that apartment received their proposal’s in the same manner. Go figure. i guess they chickened out all night and then decided to “just do it.” rather than wait for a better moment.
I don’t have a story to add but sure wish mine would have painted on a big old tank for me
Too funny!
Alisha- that is so sweet
Ginger- well, was it at least sweet and romantic the way he asked?
Gayla..LOL! Don’t ya wonder if he got in trouble for graffiti?
We planned a 10 day trip to California starting In San francisco ending in San Diego. We took a street car to a fancy romantic restaurant in downtown SF and ate dinner in a revolving restaurant overlooking the entire city.
Just at sunset, he bent down on one knee and proposed. The entire restaurant was clapping. Since this was the start of our trip, our family had no idea and we did not call home. (they’d have thought us too young at 23 and 24 anyway.)
We we got home, we waited until the next weekend to pop over for dinner and share the news. His family was thrilled. Mine was too shocked for words.
We now laugh at it with both families 23 years later. My husband recently asked my Mom & Dad if he had asked them in advance before our trip would they have kept it a secret and they both replied “NO”!
Great memories even all these years later.
aww, Andrea that is awesome! How fun!
I actually did the proposing. My hunny and I had been together for 2 years. I bought a ring for him. About a week later I took him on a date. While waiting on dessert at our favorite Italian place, I pulled out the ring and ask him the big question. No knees or music, but it was well worth it. I’m normally very traditional, but I was growing tired of waiting on him (ha ha!).
Niki, that made me laugh.
Ours is so unromantic, it’s hilarious.
Went to our favorite restaurant for dinner…got the table right by the kitchen *and* the path to the restrooms. It was the only table left in the joint! The wait for another table was going to be “about an hour” – we decided to suck it up and take it, especially since I had a nasty cluster migraine. Left dinner and went to his apartment where we decided to play Super Mario Brothers on Nintendo (the original Nintendo – this was 1989). I played, lost my turn. DH starts talking – not playing. I’m tired and I’m laying on the sofa with my head in his lap wondering why the heck he’s not playing and WHAT is he babbling about. Then I hear him say, “Well? Are you going to open it?” (”Open what?” I’m thinking) I look down to see my engagement ring box sitting on my chest. Um…sure! Sit up, ignore massive rush of pounding head pain, opened the box, looked at him and he said, “Well, will you marry me or not? You weren’t listening when I was talking to you, were you?” “Yes, I’ll marry you and no…I was wondering why you weren’t playing your turn and I was starting to get mad!” (sounded like an old married couple). So…our first date was March 1, he proposed March 2, we got married on March 3. And lest you think, “Wow, that was a whirlwind romance!” it was 1986, 1989 and 1990.
Gina that is great!
